I can't seem to get this knot right. LOL. Anyone have a link to really good instructions on it?

I agree it's a hard one. When I was first trying to learn it I browsed around a bit and read a couple different how-to's. Still pretty tough to get right, but it helps to look at a few different ones all with pictures.

Thanks for the info! I just got some cord in the other day I ordered from Amazon. I will give it a go!
Have you tried watching JD's tutorials on YouTube? Tying it all together (TIAT). He does great videos if you can stand the music. Lol

I haven't, but I am going to watch them now.
He has a website as well. Fusionknots.com that is a freaking encyclopedia of knots and ties. I use that website a lot to look for something new or remember how to tie something.
I know this has been up awhile but have you checked Kevin the paracordist? Awesome stuff. I made a half dozen monkeys fist lanyard key chains for the young ladies of the family last Christmas. Awesome videos on YouTube, facebook and his website.
I'll have to check him out too. I feel like I need to build the jig or I'll never get it right. This is the ONE knot I've tried that I can't get down lol.
That jig is very cool, but I just used my hands and fingers. After you get the idea, and you can get the steel ball in it, it's not bad at all. You could try and bend up a coat hanger neatly. I did for my first few attempts.
I also made one out of a thicker floating rope first. Untied it and did it again. It was pretty easy after that and trying the hanger a few times, I'd done it 4-5 times so...
Let's see em' guys!
I posted this one on Kevin's FB page.

For smaller objects like marbles I just put the marble between my pointer and middle fingers on my left hand (since I'm right handed) then I hold the end of the cord between my thumb and pointer finger then I start my wrap.
Just found this site over on GF and decided to check out. The first thing I see is monkey fist. I used to work on boats in another life and our family room has a nautical theme so did this for decoration.

Nice work.
I learned to do it with a heavier piece of rope. helped me see what is going on in the knot. Its easier to see and manipulate.
I learned by watching The Paracordist on youtube. Also, I recommend you make a monkey fist jig. Once you put a ball more than a half inch in the center its very difficult doing it with just your hand.

Welcome to the forum!

I made a monkey fist using a 1 inch steel ball and it wasn't difficult by hand. I actually found it easier than using a marble or similar smaller core.
Cool
