I was playing with 40 cal casings, to see how hard it would be to use the on a lanyard. My daughter is a Green Bay fan and I had a little cord left after making her a bracelet.
I'm slowly learning how to melt with out burning. So far the trick seams to be holding end in the blue part of the flame and just touch few seconds at a time. Hope it works for you too.
You can also try holding the flame underneath the end of the paracord to get the end to melt.
