Here is a quick tutorial on joining cords together with the "Manny" method as developed by Manuel Zambrano. You'll need two lacing needles to do this though.
I have quite a few different torches but my main torch is a Ronson Tech Torch. It's not the one in the video but it's what the one in the video is modeled after. The ronson isn't cheap though. it's at least $50. If you are at Home Depot, the Benzomatic they have there for $25 is a good deal.
