Finally got my ESEE Izula...

Decided to try my hand at a paracord wrap until my Micarta scales come in. Saw a similar wrap and attempted to replicate it.

Definitely not the best job, but I was only trying this in my lap, so I didn't have a secure way to hold the blade.

Might have to pick up a Becker BK-14 and replicate this wrap on it, using a vice to hold the knife while I work, of course.

I used 3' of coreless 550 in each color but ran too short to make a monkey fist on the end, so I had to improvise at the end. Going with 5 feet each on the next one.

It looks good enough to me.
I wanted that knife about two months ago.

Post a pic when the scales arrive.

Well, I got my BK14 in.

And I got the Micarta Scales I was waiting for.

But I really liked the wrap I originally did on the Izula, so I mirrored it on the BK14

I didn't strip the core from this cord, so it's a little bulkier in the hand, and I tried a few different end knots, but opted for a tied loop instead.

I'm happy with how it turned out, but I may go back to the original color scheme I did on the Izula with the green on the outside. I think it enhances the profile of the handle better...

I like the scales but the wrap looks better.

Yeah, I'm torn on this...

I'm making a Bushcraft style leather sheath that will hold my BK2 and either the Izula or the BK14, and I want the scales to match on the knives. The BK2 tang is not set up for a wrap of this type. Micarta scales were the only ones I could find at a price I was willing to spend for both blades.
My step-father-in-law does wonderful wood work and I may commission him to make matching wood scales out of an exotic species in the future, though.

I really like the feel of the full cord on the BK14. It fits the palm of my hand like it was meant to be there.
Maybe I'll just have to get another BK14 to put the scales on...

Sounds like a good idea getting custom scales made.
