550 Milspec III 7 Strand

This is the cord I buy. I don't buy anything else. It's supposedly rated at 550lbs, but who knows on that. I like the fact it does not rot, and will not mildew. I can attest to this because I used it for everything outdoors, including the guy wires on my tent.

That is exactly what it is rated at. As former military I can confirm that is what the 550 means. If you see 450 or 350 it means 450 or 350 lbs respectfully. We used it for tons of things not just parachutes.

That's good to know. Wondering if 450 cord is maybe some fake stuff then?
No it is not a fake just not as durable. Military uses paracord for different weight limits. When they drop a Humvee from a C-130 I don't think they use 550 cord to drop it...probably something stronger you know!

Ha ha! No doubt they do. Great info. I guess I always thought 550 was the "real" stuff so I never bought anything else.
